Overlook Mountain House

These photos were taken by Karen Burns on 8/22/2022 while hiking up Overlook Mountain, near the town of Woodstock.The Overlook Mountain House was a hotel on Overlook Mountain, the third such hotel built there and resides at 2,920 feet (890 meters) elevation about half mile from the peak, and can only be reached after a strenuous hike up the mountain (signs say watch out for rattlesnakes). It was built in 1871 and destroyed by fire in 1875, rebuilt in 1878 and destroyed by fire once again in 1923, then rebuilt in the current concrete form but never completed and shut down in 1940, damaged by fire again the next year and then later in the 1960's. It was built into the side of the hill so one side in three stories while the other is four. There are surrounding structures also, all in ruin.
